The Image, Lafayette's student newspaper has been published since 1965. The 2009 Legend, Lafayette's student yearbook, represents the 47th publication year.The DVD Yearbook supplement is in its fourth year of publilcation.

The Image and Legend are members of the National Scholastic Press Association. The 2007-2008 Image received a First Class rating. The 2006-2007 and 2005-2006 Image were national Pacemaker Finalists. The Image was also named a Pacemaker finalist in 2004-2005, 2002-2003 and 2000-2001. The Legend received First Class ratings in 2004, 2005 and 2006. The 2006 DVD was named a national Pacemaker finalist and the 2007 DVD won a National Pacemaker award.
The Image is a member of the International Quill and Scroll Society. It has received a rating of International First Place each year since 1993.
The Image and Legend are also members of the Sponsors of School Publications of Greater St. Louis. The 2007-2008 Image received a rating of Superior and the 2007 Legend received a rating of Superior.
Other Honors:The 2007-2008 Image placed 5th in the National Scholastic Press Association's Best of Show competition in Philadelphia. Also, the following students places in the Journalism Education Association's National Write-Off competition:

Also, Mrs. Nancy Y. Smith was one of six finalists for 2007-2008 Missouri Teacher of the Year and was recently named the St. Louis Press Club's Journalism Teacher of the Year and a Special Recognition Adviser in the JEA's National Yearbook Adviser of the Year competition.
